Lodge Group Bike Ride Schedule - October 2 & 3

3rd Annual Nocattee Stage Race is On!

For more information on the race click here: http://www.wamevents.com/

Or contact Pete Loftis: peteloftis@gmail.com

That also means the Saturday Ride route will be altered for this coming weekend. The adjusted route is thus: PVB across A!A, at the Publix round-about take a right on Palm Valley Rd, left at Landrum Rd, at Roscoe Blvd:

A Group heads left to 210 Bridge, over bridge down 210, at Crosswater Parkway ride two loops on “spoke 1” turning around at the first light before the overpass at the old 210 intersection, then up the on-ramp and back to the Lodge.

AA Group turns right on Roscoe Blvd., right at Canal, right at Palm Valley Road, right on Landrum and at Roscoe Blvd. turns right and follow the same course as the A Group.

Essentially the route is one lap of our old “loop in the valley” ride, then two laps of spoke one and back. If you are at the front of the pace line, please call out the turns well ahead of time. This route will be unfamiliar to our newer riders.

Please note CORONA ROAD will be closed beginning 13 September 2010 to all vehicular traffic for approximately six (6) months for the Corona Road Weir Safety Improvements Project between Ponte Vedra Blvd. and Rutile Drive.

Pedestrian access will be provided on weekends only.

The Renegade Wednesday Night Winter Ride

It’s time to start the 2010 RENEGADE UA (Urban Assault) Season. John the Spider Man and I have been working on the route and will continue for the next two weeks.

We expect the UA Ride to start en masse the first week in Oct. Starting at the tennis courts at 16th. St. S. Jax Beach at 6 pm. Most of us will be riding UA conversions while others are using there purpose built 700’s. Lights are strongly encouraged!

The first couple of rides basically should be “shake down rides” to familiarize folks with the route. It looks like the ride may split into two components much like the Sat Beaches Lodge Ride but may regroup at times. This ride should be a “Base Mileage Winter Ride” and somewhat social.

There are two sections of the ride that the leaders will reach upwards around 30 mph on Fairway and Seminole roads as well as a MAD DASH through the Black Forest.

I plan on road marking the route this Weds. Sept 22. Again …. Meet the Huguenot Park 16th. St. S Jax Bch. 6 pm.

RENEGADE also plans Pub Crawls and Socials through out the year!

Come join the FUN! Click here for the Renegade Blog

Protect vital bicycle funding programs- demand proportionality in rescissions!

Take Action! League of American Bicyclist

The Jobs Bill passed by Congress last week contains a $2.2 billion rescission of transportation funds from state Departments of Transportation. In many states, the DOT will likely target bike funding programs for the money to send back to the federal government – unless local advocates speak up and make sure that doesn’t happen. States must report which program funds are affected by August 25th- so action is needed this week!
Unlike previous rescissions there is no proportionality requirement calling for equal distribution of funding program cuts. Instead, the law gives the States maximum flexibility to choose the unobligated balances of funds to be rescinded.
The amount each state has to rescind is up to $200 million for the largest states. Many programs that fund bicycle projects are threatened by these rescissions including. These programs are often unfairly targets for cuts or rescissions, and in some cases have been completely gutted.
Take action now! Please contact your Governor and ask that rescissions be done equitably across programs, and that those that traditionally fund bicycling projects not be unfairly targeted.

Help save our cycling riding routes from rumble strips

Help save riding routes from rumble strips.

USA Cycling has joined in an appeal with the League of American Bicyclists, Adventure Cycling Association and the Alliance for Biking and Walking to jointly request state departments of transportation to re-issue existing rumble strip guidelines in order to protect cycling routes.

Cyclists and motorists share a desire for safer roadways. Most of us are motorists as well as cyclists and we have probably all benefited from the wake-up call provided by rumble strips on the Interstate or major state highways. However, as cyclists we also know that there is no such thing as a bicyclist-friendly rumble strip, and over the years a lot of good roads for riding have been lost to rumble strips.

Click here to go directly to send an alert to your state Department of Transportation.

Jim Leland's Tour De France Trip / Ride 2010

On July 10, Dave and Cindy Smith, Joe and Maurya Sova, Jim and Sandy Leland, Cycle Hard Paul Hardison, Tom and Dent from Houston, Kevin and Eleanor from Britain all arrived at the Vanilla Sky chalet in Seez, France. This jewel is located in the heart of the French Alps and run by the dynamic duo of Andy and Samantha Maiklem….our hosts for 7 days of riding, sight seeing, eating and drinking. Did I mention eating and drinking? We climbed some of the epic Tour mountains including the Cormet de Roselend, Col de Petit St. Bernard, Col du Telegraphe and the never ending Col du Galibier. Perhaps the highlight was ascending the Col de Madeleine just hours before Stage 9 of the Tour came roaring up. I have never experienced tens of thousands of Tour fans cheering you up a climb. Brilliant. We also spent a day in Chambery to take in the start of Stage 10. A fantastic trip capped off by some folks heading to Italy and others to Spain. Highly recommend this chalet for its location, hospitality and value.
