BFSC Labor Day Weekend Ride Schedule - Sept 1, 2 & 3 - Sunday Amelia Island and Monday Labor Day Ride

Labor Day Holiday Weekend is here!! Wow summer is almost over, how quickly time flies by when you are having fun.

BFSC will have 3 days of scheduled bike rides.

The traditional Saturday ride.

Sunday, September 2nd, BFSC Sunday’s Ride is to Amelia Island. We will catch the 8:30 AM Ferry, 7:30 AM from the Lodge.

The Mayport Ferry has received funding to run for ONE more year to allow the Ferry Commission to develop a long-range plan for funding the Ferry long term. There are several grants available for Ferries in the US, and the Ferry Commission is going to apply for these grants.

Monday, September 3rd. Labor Day Holiday, 8:00 AM ride from the Lodge. This will be a traditional group ride. Most likely this will be our short 40 mile route so riders can get back home and enjoy other Labor Day activities.

BFSC Asking for Support for Hit & Run Injured Cyclist Lorin Leuthold. If you would like to make a donation this weekend on our BFSC bike rides, you can give your money to Kathy Horton, Rebekah Hope or Robert Buck.

BFSC Asking for Support for Hit & Run Injured Cyclist Lorin Leuthold

About 2 weeks ago, a friend of Judd Williams, Lorin Leuthold, riding alone late afternoon/early evening on Phillips Hwy. was struck by a hit and run driver. Lorin was thrown about 20 feet into a ditch full of water. His head was the only thing above the water and he slipped in and out of consciousness until his family found him quite a few hours later. They almost didn't find him.....it was dark, his bike was so mangled that it did not look like a bike, plus he was in a ditch making it even harder to see him.

We are asking for donations to help the family. I think Lorin's children have seen him once since the accident. His wife Laura, is publishing a bloghttp://m.caringbridge.org/visit/lorinleuthold
for anyone that might like to track his progress. He has been taken off the ventilator, his pelvis has been repaired, and I believe an infection is somewhat under control. I think there is some concern regarding his kidneys.

Anyone that would like to donate, please look for either Kathy Horton or Rebekah Hope or Robert Buck on both Thursday's rides (BFSC 6:30 AM and 9:00 AM ride and 6:30 PM BFSC County Line ride) and also BFSC Saturday's Ride.

If Lorin is like the rest of us, I'm sure he'll want to get back on the bike as soon as he is able. From what Judd has said, Lorin's bike is not repairable. If anyone has a bike they would like to sell cheap or even donate, please see Judd.

Thanks to everyone who has already responded and offered donations. I know it will mean a lot to this family.
